Longmire family genealogy and records, 1786-1961 1946-1961.

This collection was compiled by Maude Longmire Shaffer with material from Ruth Mosmon Heermans. It contains copies of correspondence; Rice branch of the Longmire Family Tree; copies of information about the Yelm Irrigation Company and the Yelm [WA] Irrigation District; 16 negatives of photographs of the Longmires, Sylvesters & historic houses in Olympia WA; 16 black & white photographs with the negatives building the Yelm [WA] irrigation project; copies of a map of Yelm [WA] prairie and personal papers. It also contains the typewritten copy of the Narrative of James Longmire prepared by Mrs. Lou Palmer from personal interviews with James Longmire a few years before his death . It lists a detailed description of their trip across the plains, the people and families involved in the trip. It includes the description of the events, relationships and incidents with the Native Americans that took place prior and during the Yakima Indian War of 1855-1856.
